Many Helpful Volunteers this Evening

The helpful volunteers from the Sandy Utah Canyon View Stake and the Cottonwood Heights Utah Brighton Stake along with the dedicated service missionaries were busy this evening.

Zucchini, summer squash, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, spaghetti squash, melons were harvested. The greenhouse is in phase three of the demolition process. The corn was sprayed. Weeding occurred in the growboxes.

The Sandy Utah Crops has provided the Bishop's Storehouse an accumulation of 11, 861 lbs of produce for the Bishop's Storehouse and 1,127 lbs of produce for the Utah Food Bank.

The Sandy Vegetable Project was started in 1978 by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a church welfare farm. The vegetables grown at this farm are sent to the Bishop's Storehouse in Sandy, UT, or to the Utah Food Bank. There are 20+ volunteer service-missionaries called to work at the farm each harvest season from spring until fall. The missionaries oversee the many volunteers who come from 44 stakes around the valley to help with the work. During the 2017 season, more than 42,000 pounds of vegetables were harvested at the farm for the bishop's storehouse.
