Broken Pipe

One of the large irrigation pipes was found to be all cracked. After assessing the situation, it was decided that the pipe must be dug up and replaced. Here are some before and after shots of the switch.

Sprinkler Medics to the Rescue!

Most of the beds have misters installed and some of them have sprung leaks! Sister Leitner and two handy volunteers from the West Jordan Heritage Stake put on their sprinkler medic hats and fixed the holes.

Here are our two volunteers ready to help.

Orange flags marked the spots where we had big leaks.

To fix the tubes we cut out the piece that was leaking and replaced it with a plastic connector.

Here they are fixing the tube.

Hiding from the Birds

It was discovered that birds were having a good time eating our new carrot seedlings that were starting to sprout. We decided that we had better get some cloth covers over the carrot beds, and also on top of the new lettuce plantings.

A group worked on the lettuce beds to get the misters connected for the irrigation.

Here's one of the volunteers helping to connect the mister to the water pipe. He had to make a sharp 90 degree turn and use the rebar pole to fasten the hose around it for support.

Here is the canopy cover going up over the carrot beds.

Planting the Water Pipes

Large pipes needed to be laid down in the ground next to the corn field for irrigation. It took several men to haul these pipes and set them down in the ground. Over the next couple of visits, they were buried in the ground.
