Super Saturday

We had an awesome Saturday at the farm. Volunteers from the Sandy UT East and Sandy UT Granite Stakes came ready and willing to help. We had a nice turnout today which meant we could tend to many projects. We harvested and washed veggies, topped off carrots, weeded, prepared new beds for planting, cleaned out the cooler, sanitized bins, organized seed packets, bagged groups of seed trays, washed buckets, and worked in the field.

A Seed Donation

The Sandy UT Crescent Ridge Stake helped us out at the farm last night. We started with our first priority of the day which is always harvesting. Then we move to washing the veggies. There are always other tasks going on that keep the volunteers busy and the garden looking good. The kids who came tonight worked on a special project of sorting and organizing seed packets. We were given a huge donation of seeds from a local store with hundreds of seed packets. We will put those to good use!

A Beautiful Summer Evening to Pick Veggies

It was another beautiful summer evening. We picked a hearty harvest of summer squash, zucchini, cucumbers, carrots, broccoli, cabbage, beets, and radishes. Several more new veggies should be ready to pick soon. We appreciate the volunteers from the Sandy UT Cottonwood Creek and Sandy UT Crescent Park who helped pick today's harvest, washed the veggies, planted seeds, and hoed weeds in the field.

Delightful Veggies

Our veggies are looking so good! Tonight we harvested some beautiful radishes, green onions, red leaf lettuce, zephyr squash, yellow crookneck squash, zucchini, beets, and cabbage. The days are gettting hot and we so appreciate tonight's volunteers from the Sandy Utah Central and Sandy Utah Crescent North Stakes. You were wonderful tonight sweating it out accomplishing so much! Thank you!

Carrot Toppings

This morning was heating up quick! I believe the temperature was going to reach almost 100 degrees today. We were delighted to see many volunteers from the Sandy Utah Hillcrest and Sandy Utah Mount Jordan Stakes. Our first priority is always the harvest, so we set out a group to pick the broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, summer squash, zucchini, cucumbers, lettuce, beets, and carrots. Overall, we harvested a total of 119 pounds of produce today and got much accomplished.

Here we are putting our wonderful new benches to use with the carrot topping task. These were made as a Eagle Scout project and were just delivered to the farm on Thursday. We love them!

Since we had such a great turn out of volunteers today, we were able to focus quite a bit on weeding. Our walkways, grow boxes, and field are starting to look overgrown with weeds. We appreciated all of the volunteers to help to tidy up a small section today. We will continue to tackle those weeds all throughout the rest of the season to keep them in control.

And here's a wave from Gary! He served at the farm last year and did a wonderful job. He started back with us this year, but then received a big calling in his ward and wasn't able to do both. His Stake was assigned to serve today at the farm so we took the opportunity to volunteer. We loved seeing him.
