If You Build It, They Will Come

Remember the popular saying from Fields of Dreams? You know...the one that whispers quietly..."If you build it, they will come." Well, we didn't build a baseball field, but we did build some heavy duty garden trellises to support the squash growth.

An entire row of rebar poles were added to one of the boxes tonight. These poles will support the veggies and allow the vines to climb freely throughout the season.

About Us

The Sandy Vegetable Project was started in 1978 by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a church welfare farm. The vegetables grown at this farm are sent to the Bishop's Storehouse in Sandy, UT, or to the Utah Food Bank. There are 20+ volunteer service-missionaries called to work at the farm each harvest season from spring until fall. The missionaries oversee the many volunteers who come from 44 stakes around the valley to help with the work. During the 2017 season, more than 42,000 pounds of vegetables were harvested at the farm for the bishop's storehouse.
